Rotorua Housing Announcement

Mar 18, 2022 | Media

Housing Minister Dr Megan Woods and Environment Minister David Parker announce A New Measure To Boost Housing Supply in Rotorua.

Rotorua whānau, hapū and communities continue to feel the blow of unaffordable rates for home ownership and rental properties.

The urban intensification is a pathway to resolve our housing issue and Te Arawa Lakes Trust will be working alongside Council so long as it does not have a negative impact on Wai or Waterways.

Te Arawa Lakes Trust sees it as an opportunity to work closely with Council on storm water and waste water infrastructure, which needs significant investment.

Our Trust submitted alongside Rotorua Lakes Council and Te Tatau o Te Arawa in support of the Resource Management (Enabling Housing Supply and Other Matters) Amendment Bill on the basis that the Bill enabled a strong Treaty based discussion in the District on how the Intensification happens.

Rotorua Lakes Council have hosted two workshops with Mana Whenua to date and Te Arawa Lakes Trust will work with the outcomes from these to ensure the aspirations of Mana Whenua are carried forward.
