Ngāti Rangiwewehi with the support of Te Arawa Lakes Trust have placed a Rāhui on Lake Rotorua following the recent finding of a tūpāpaku (body) at Waerenga Bay, between Hamurana and Mourea.
Ngāti Rangiwewehi descendant and trustee for Te Arawa Lakes Trust Te Ururoa Flavell says,
“Our condolences are with the whānau pani, as they undertake the next steps in grieving for their loved one.”
“Nā runga i ngā tikanga, in accordance with our customs we respectfully place the Rāhui for a week.”
Yesterday, a karakia was held by Ngāti Rangiwewehi kaumatua to formally place a Rāhui on Lake Rotorua.
A Karakia to lift the Rāhui will take place Tuesday 6th September.
