Te Arawa Lakes Trust sees the relationship between Rotorua Lakes Council and the urban intensification of Rotorua as an opportunity.
Te Urunga o Kea Climate Change Coordinator Lani Kereopa says there needs to be a focus on the health and wellbeing of the environment.
Kereopa says “Within housing we need to make sure we develope and embed adaptations and mitigations solutions to deal with any potentional impacts of climate breakdown and these need to align with Iwi priorities and values.”
“Ensuring future housing and development plans enable community resilience by supporting sustainable water and energy, management and use – accomodating food growing and sharing and restoring connection with nature.”
Te Arawa Lakes Trust submitted alongside Rotorua Lakes Council and Te Tatau o Te Arawa in support of the Resource Management (Enabling Housing Supply and Other Matters) Amendment Bill on the basis that the Bill enabled a strong Treaty based discussion in the District on how the Intensification happens.
