Controlled Area Notice
As of Friday, November 10, 2023, our Te Arawa Rotomoana have been allocated a biosecurity shield to help prevent a freshwater gold clam invasion.
Under a new conditional controlled area notice also known as a Conditional CAN, before entering any of the Te Arawa lakes, boaties who have been in the Waikato River in the previous 30 days need to clean their boat at the designated wash station.
These biosecurity measures, activated through the Biosecurity Act, are set to safeguard our beloved lakes, including the picturesque Lake Ōkataina.
Lake Ōkataina has reopened its waters to boaties! A new set of protections are in place with a quick boat and trailer scrub at the designated wash station on Te Ngae Rd.
There will be controlled access and lake hours to Lake Ōkataina – so please refer to MPI announcement below .
Kia kaha tātou katoa and lets embrace these protective measures and keep our lakes pristine!
