Te Arawa Lakes Trust is proud to announce the appointment of Tame Malcolm as its new General Manager.
A proud product of Te Arawa, and with an impressive track record in indigenous and environmental conservation, Tame has the knowledge, skills, and experience to lead the Trust at this critical time.
Te Arawa Lakes Trust Chairman, Wally Haumaha, expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, following a thorough and competitive recruitment process over the past two months.
β€œWe were encouraged by the high calibre of applicants and the strong interest in this role, which reflects the shared commitment to our lakes, our taiao, and the enduring legacy of the Trust,” said Mr Haumaha.
β€œTame’s deep passion for te taiao and our people aligns seamlessly with the Trust’s kaupapa and mahi. His extensive experience in environmental management, biosecurity, and Treaty-Crown partnerships is invaluable for advancing the Trust’s objectives now and into the future.
β€œWe are thrilled to welcome Tame to the team and are confident he will lead with integrity and pride for Te Arawa.”
Tame’s previous experience includes positions at the Department of Conservation, the Ministries for the Environment and Primary Industries, and more recently, with Te Tira Whakamātaki, home of the Māori biosecurity network.
Known as a β€˜biosecurity and biodiversity champion,’ his work has involved partnering with indigenous communities to develop environmental programmes, leading research on indigenous approaches to conservation, leading DOC’s national strategy to embed Treaty relationships, and advising Cabinet and the Minister of Conservation on developing meaningful partnerships with tangata whenua to protect the taiao.
Tame will work alongside the Trust’s interim CEO and is set to commence his role on 29 September.
